‘TRALEE ON ICE’ TO WINTERTAIN THIS CHRISTMAS
October is only a few hours old and already some of the major shopping stores in Kerry are displaying their Christmas wares…a real sign that Christmas is around the corner. However for a small group of individuals in Tralee, Christmas events for the town were already being discussed and planned ever before Declan O’Sullivan put his hands on Sam McGuire at Croke Park.
Tralee on Ice was in inevitable; following on from the popularity of Ice
Skating Rinks in Killarney, Cork and Limerick it was only a matter of time that
a group would take the Icy plunge and bring an Ice Rink to Tralee.
According to Event planners Mark Sullivan and Bryan Carr “we spent a lot of time
researching different Ice-Rink options such as size, companies, synthetic as
suppose to real but the overall WOW factor could not be easily ignored with a
real Ice rink”; and while the financial outlay for the real deal is far great
than the alternative synthetic option, according to the boys “when people are
taking time out from their busy lives and spending hard earned money now-a-days
they want the full bells and whistles !”
The event is taking place with the assistance of private investors and a core group from the successful ‘Festival of Kerry ’07 ‘Back to Basics’ Street Festival namely Holiday Tralee Chairman Mark Sullivan and Event Manager Bryan Carr. It is the intention of the management group to develop and expand not alone the ‘Back to Basics’ and ‘Tralee on Ice’ events but to develop other events and activities for Tralee town throughout the year. However the group cannot expand and develop without the investment and patronage of the general public, local businesses and local authorities.
‘Tralee on Ice’ will be centred under a specially constructed 1,200 Sq meter Christmas themed marquee with the focal point of the Christmas village being the 600 Sq meter Ice Rink. The marquee is very much family orientated and will also play host to other activities and attractions such as a spectacular Santa’s Cabin, Climbing wall, Q-Zar Lazar Tag and Carousel along with a number of Christmas Market stalls with a food court to keep everyone happy. Management are also offering Birthday packages, Christmas parties and team building days to the business sector by utilizing the Ice for games such as curling, Icicle chairs, ice football etc. There will be a dedicated family skate area and introductory skate lessons available by the on sight Ice Guardians.
The Aqua Dome management are delighted to be associated with ‘Tralee on Ice’ and a special ‘Skate and Splash’ deal will be available to everyone who would like to visit both attractions at a special discounted rate. The online ticketing system will allow individuals, families, school groups, social clubs and even businesses to book online and will also offer high usage customers with a ‘Frequent Skater Pass’ along with special Skate chairs for wheelchair users.
The ‘Tralee on Ice’ Christmas village will be located in the car park of the Aqua Dome Tralee. The event will run from Saturday December 1st through until Little Christmas Sunday January 6th 2008. Running 7 days per week from 10am until 10pm.Tickets are available now from the Tralee on Ice box office at the Aqua Dome, by calling 066 7193288 or online at www.traleeonice.com.
