If you’re looking for a new way to keep the kids entertained while exploring the great outdoors, we’ve got some exciting news. Ciar’s Quest, the free augmented reality trail that has been a big hit in Killarney’s Ross Island, has now expanded to three new locations across Kerry!
Families can now join Ciar on his magical adventures along the:
That means even more opportunities for fun, fresh air, and discovery on Kerry’s beautiful Greenways and along the coast.

A Family Adventure with a Twist
So, who is Ciar? He’s a special little boy with a big mission. A descendant of the O’Connor Chieftain Ciar, the founder of the Kingdom of Kerry, Ciar is determined to protect the county’s heritage and uncover its hidden treasures.
Armed with the free Ciar’s Quest app, families can set off on an adventure by following a digital map, hunting for trail symbols (QR codes), and unlocking secrets about Kerry’s wildlife and folklore. Think of it as a mix between a nature walk and a treasure hunt — with a little bit of magic thrown in.
Cllr. Michael Leane, Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District is enthusiastic about the App in Ballyheigue and on Listowel-Limerick Greenway: “By combining technology with the outdoors, Ciar’s Quest encourages people of all ages to explore, discover, and enjoy the beauty of our county and the Quests can be enjoyed by locals as well as visitors”
Why Families Will Love It
Ciar’s Quest is designed to make getting outdoors even more fun for kids. Instead of just walking or cycling the trails, little adventurers get to help Ciar complete his mission while discovering Kerry’s landscapes and wildlife. Parents love that it gets kids active, curious, and engaged with their surroundings.
Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’Brien was delighted to launch the App on the hugely popular Tralee-Fenit Greenway: “Ciar’s Quest is a wonderful way to bring our Greenways and heritage to life for families and visitors. We are delighted to partner with Wanderful on this project, which celebrates Kerry’s rich culture, folklore, and natural environment in such an engaging and innovative way.”
And with trails starting at a beach, a castle, and two spectacular Greenways, there’s something for everyone to enjoy — whether you prefer seaside strolls or cycling through the countryside.
