Kingdom of Kerry Greenways

Tralee to Fenit Greenway

Stretching from the bustling county capital of Tralee to the scenic coastal village of Fenit, the Tralee to Fenit Greenway offers 13.6 km of spectacular countryside and coastline. This stunning section of the Kerry Greenways invites visitors to enjoy sweeping views of Mount Brandon, Tralee Bay, and Fenit Harbour—a signature discovery point along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Leaving Tralee, the trail passes through The Spa, Cotters Bend, and Kilfenora, before opening out along the Tralee Estuary, where unforgettable vistas of the Dingle Peninsula emerge. On arrival in Fenit visitors can take in Fenit’s maritime heritage with a visit to St. Brendan’s Statue, allow the children to enjoy the playground or discover the range of coastal activities available from Fenit Marina.

The Greenway traces the path of the former Tralee–Fenit railway, originally constructed to serve the deep-water port at Fenit—once envisioned as a strategic point for transatlantic shipping. Connecting with the broader North Kerry Line, the railway included intermediate stops at Spa and Kilfenora, with tracks extending directly onto the pier for efficient ship loading. For decades, it carried agricultural produce, timber, coal, and sugar beet, and became a beloved destination for Sunday summer excursions. Passenger services ended in 1935, and while freight operations continued for several more decades, the line eventually closed with track removal completed in 1978.

Today, the Tralee to Fenit Greenway breathes new life into this historic coastal route, offering a refreshing blend of nature, culture, and heritage for walkers and cyclists of all ages.
