At the recent International Conference for Cultural Tourism in Europe, Dingle Peninsula's festivals have won a major accolade at the European Cultural Tourism Network and the European Travel Commission annual ECTN awards, as the ECTN Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Award winner for 2024.
The recognition, awarded in the category of "Intangible Heritage, including Festivals, for Sustainable Cultural Tourism," was presented at a prestigious ceremony held at Dublin Castle, where the Alliance was proudly represented by Caroline Boland Dingle Peninsula Tourism Alliance and Niamh O'Kennedy, Dingle Food Festival (pictured accepting the award on behalf of the Dingle Peninsula).
This award celebrates the vibrant cultural heritage of the Dingle Peninsula, where the calendar is filled year-round with festivals and events that celebrate the arts, fitness, food, music, language, and the unique spirit of our community. These gatherings highlight the region’s dedication to preserving and promoting local culture while inviting visitors to experience the richness of our traditions. Dingle Peninsula were joined in their category by 2nd place Liget Budapest, and 3rd place City of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of festival organisers, volunteers, and the enthusiastic support of our local communities. Their efforts make each event a success and contribute to the thriving cultural landscape that defines the Dingle Peninsula.
