Some of Kerry’s largest and most influential employers will gather in Tralee this Thursday evening as part of the Apprenticeship Open Evening at Kerry College’s Monavalley Campus.

Running from 5.00pm to 8.00pm, the event brings together global manufacturers, renewable energy leaders, national transport operators and established local engineering firms, offering a strong snapshot of the county’s industrial strength and future skills demand.

Among the confirmed employers attending are Liebherr, Dairymaster, ESB, SSE, Siemens Gamesa, Bus Éireann, Iarnród Éireann, An Garda Síochána, the Naval Service and the Office of Public Works, alongside major regional employers including Kerry Truck Sales, TLI Group, RIGHT Group and Adams of Tralee.

The scale and calibre of companies involved highlights how central apprenticeship pathways have become to workforce development across the county.

A Reflection of Kerry’s Evolving Economy

The range of apprenticeship areas on offer reflects the diversity of industry now operating across Kerry.

Opportunities span electrical and instrumentation, metal fabrication, motor and heavy vehicle mechanics, wind turbine maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning, carpentry and joinery, agricultural mechanics, supply chain and logistics, cybersecurity and software development.

Renewable energy employers such as Nordex, SSE and Siemens Gamesa underline the continued growth of the wind energy sector in the region.

At the same time, advanced manufacturing remains a cornerstone of the local economy, with companies such as Liebherr and Dairymaster continuing to invest in technical skills and apprenticeship routes.

The presence of national infrastructure and public service organisations further signals ongoing demand for qualified trades and technical specialists. 

Strengthening the Local Skills Pipeline

Apprenticeships have become a critical route into high value employment in Kerry. Many of the county’s leading employers rely on apprenticeship programmes to develop the next generation of engineers, electricians, fabricators, technicians and digital professionals.

Beyond traditional craft trades, newer apprenticeship streams in areas such as cybersecurity, software development and accounting technician demonstrate how the model continues to evolve alongside industry needs.

With more than thirty exhibitors attending across engineering, manufacturing, energy, transport and public services, the event provides a clear indication of where employment opportunities in Kerry are concentrated.

The Apprenticeship Open Evening takes place at Kerry College, Monavalley Campus, Tralee, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm this Thursday. Attendance is open to the public.
