Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland ‘REEdI’ presented by Munster Technological University is an €8.9 million project that is redefining engineering education and positioning the country at the forefront of the field.
REEdI equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed for the evolving manufacturing sector and emerging technologies, while promoting and embedding transversal skills in our engineering programmes. Through innovative approaches and international best practices, REEdI is reforming and innovating higher education to meet industry needs.
REEdI leverages cutting-edge models of engineering pedagogy to provide the next generation of engineers with a wealth of advantages in undergraduate education. The REEdI framework includes the use of immersive technologies, innovative curricula design, access to world-class resources, and self-directed and self-scheduled learning. By embracing these tools and methodologies, REEdI creates an engaging and flexible learning environment for our students.
The flagship program offered by REEdI is the BEng (Honours) in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. This blended degree combines the best of manufacturing and mechanical engineering, producing engineers who are adaptable, flexible, and ready to meet industry demands. Students gain knowledge in process design and development, as well as product and equipment design, development, and operation.
The Engineers in Residence model is a unique feature of the REEdI program at MTU. It brings experienced industry professionals into MTU’s engineering education ecosystem to collaborate with students, faculty, and researchers. These professionals offer invaluable industry insights, real-world expertise, and practical knowledge, enriching the educational experience and preparing students for the engineering profession. Engineers in Residence serve as mentors, sharing their knowledge, providing guidance, and offering career advice to students. They actively engage in the classroom, delivering guest lectures, participating in workshops, and providing real-world case studies to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Collaboration extends beyond the classroom, as Engineers in Residence help students and researchers establish industry connections, access internships, work placements, and industry-driven projects. This program enhances students' employability and facilitates a smooth transition into the professional engineering world.
The REEdI programme exemplifies MTU's commitment to fostering collaboration, industry engagement, and innovation within the engineering field. Join MTU on this transformative journey as we reshape engineering education in Ireland. Explore the opportunities and advantages that the REEdI program offers to students and industry alike.
Together, let's forge a path towards a future where engineering education meets industry needs, and graduates are prepared to make a meaningful impact in the world of engineering.
