Irish businesses gathered in Tralee on a sunny June afternoon for a peer to peer event to share best practice in corporate sustainability. The event was hosted  by Ireland’s Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action and the Circular Bioeconomy Cluster South West in association with B Lab.

Speakers from Danone Ireland, BoatYard Distillery, Armada Hotel, Strong Roots Ltd Ireland, UrbanVolt and Easy Dry Ltd offered advice and showcased the benefits of achieving one of the highest standards of global sustainability certification called B Corp Certification administered by B Lab.

Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Unlike other certifications for businesses, B Lab is unique in that it measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact. Speakers highlighted staff retention, investment attraction and brand recognition as some of the top benefits of transitioning to a sustainable company. In total, 17 Irish businesses are BCORP certified and 6 of those were in Tralee to explain to the business community in Kerry what’s involved and the benefits.

We were delighted to host this event and share stories of success in sustainable business. We look forward to working with companies providing advice on how to become sustainable in their practices and access certifications to improve competitiveness in the market.

Check out the recording from Radio Kerry ‘Ours to Protect’ series who interviewed the speakers, James McManus from B Lab Ireland,  Bernard Cahill from Armada Hotel,  Joe McGirr from BoatYard Distillery and event organizer Eve Savage from IKC3.
