Kinisla: Building the Future from Kerry Roots
What began in a small creamery and co-operative movement in Listowel has evolved into one of Ireland’s most significant dairy and nutrition businesses — and today, that journey enters a new chapter.
Formerly known as Kerry Dairy Ireland, the business has officially rebranded as Kinisla, marking a significant milestone in its evolution while remaining firmly connected to the county and communities where it all began.
For shareholders, the story is about far more than a new name. It is about generations of families, farmers, employees and communities who helped build a globally recognised dairy business from grassroots beginnings in North Kerry.
From Listowel Beginnings to International Reach
The Kerry story began in Listowel in the early 1970s, rooted in a co-operative spirit and driven by local ambition. What started as a regional dairy operation has grown into a major international food and nutrition business with operations, products and partnerships reaching markets around the world.
Through every stage of growth, Kerry remained deeply tied to the county — creating employment, supporting farm families and helping generations build careers close to home.
Today, Kinisla continues that legacy with more than 1,500 employees across its operations and a strong network of local suppliers and farming families.
On the announcement, Pat Murphy, Chief Executive, Kinisla said -
“This is a proud and significant moment for our business, our employees, our farmers and the wider Kerry community. From humble beginnings in Listowel, generations of people helped build a business rooted in hard work, innovation and community spirit. As Kinisla, we are building on that legacy with confidence — investing €300 million in our future, creating new opportunities and continuing to support high-quality careers across Kerry and Ireland for decades to come.”
A New Name with People at its Centre
According to the company, the new name “Kinisla” combines themes of kinship and Ireland, reflecting both its people and its heritage (pronounced kin-eye-la).
That focus on people remains central to the business. Across decades of change, investment and innovation, the organisation has remained one of Kerry’s most important employers — supporting careers in manufacturing, engineering, sustainability, food science, operations, logistics, agribusiness and global nutrition.
The company says the rebrand represents the next phase of development for a business that is now back under majority farmer ownership following the Kerry Co-op transaction completed in late 2024.
€300 Million Investment and New Jobs
Alongside the launch of the new brand, Kinisla announced plans for a €300 million investment programme over the next five years aimed at expanding its consumer brands and nutrition divisions.
The investment programme is expected to support approximately 100 new jobs over the next 12 to 24 months.
The plans underline the company’s long-term commitment to Kerry and the wider south-west region, reinforcing the county’s importance as a centre for dairy innovation, food production and sustainable nutrition.
Careers Built in Kerry
For many people across Kerry, the company has never just been a workplace — it has been part of family and community life for generations.
From apprenticeships and graduate programmes to experienced technical and leadership roles, the business continues to offer opportunities for people who want to build careers while remaining connected to home. View Careers at Kinisla.
As the global food industry evolves, areas such as sustainability, biotechnology, nutritional ingredients and advanced manufacturing are creating new opportunities for skilled professionals across Kerry and Ireland.
Looking Ahead While Staying Grounded
The transition to Kinisla reflects a business looking confidently toward the future while staying grounded in the values that shaped it.
Innovation, community, resilience and people have always been at the heart of Kerry’s dairy story — from the first days in Listowel to today’s international operations.
As investment continues and new opportunities emerge, the company’s message is clear: the next chapter will still be proudly rooted in Kerry.
