Kerry towns and villages once again excelled at this year’s SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards, with communities from across the county recognised for their dedication, creativity, and unflagging community spirit. Their work throughout 2025 – so often carried out quietly and without fanfare – has once again placed Kerry among the country’s leaders when it comes to caring for our towns, villages and shared environments.
Tralee Leads the Way
At the top of Kerry’s achievers this year was Tralee Tidy Towns, who were crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre 2025 (An Lárionad Uirbeach Mór is Slachtmhaire in Éirinn 2025). The group achieved an impressive 399 marks in their category and took home a €5,000 prize – a fitting reward for years of tireless commitment and teamwork.
Speaking after the announcement, Martha Farrell of Tralee Tidy Towns expressed her delight:
“We’re really over the moon. We are in the top four in the country, and when you think that there’s something like 929 entries, for us to be in the top four is amazing. There’s been phenomenal work done by volunteers and stakeholders in the county over the past few years, but we honestly never expected this. We want to keep the momentum going now and drive on and really improve Tralee. That’s our ultimate aim with Tralee Tidy Towns”
This year also marked a special milestone for the group – their 13th consecutive Gold Medal – a testament to their consistency, passion and community pride.
Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’Brien, also praised the achievement:
“Tralee has been deservingly rewarded today for the fantastic work of the Tidy Towns group that goes on every day and all around us. I wish to congratulate them, along with all the Tidy Towns groups around the county, for achieving standards of excellence through their collective displays of community spirit and pride.”
Tralee’s success didn’t end there. The group also won the Circular Economy Award (€500) and were runners-up in the Town Centre First Award, receiving another €1,500 – a reflection of their innovative and sustainable approach to community development.
Strong Performances Across the County
Beyond Tralee, Kerry’s Tidy Towns network once again demonstrated how deeply volunteerism and pride of place run through the county.
In West Kerry, Castlegregory Tidy Towns had a remarkable year, winning the ‘Leave No Trace’ Award (€1,000), topping the ‘Climate Action Awards’ village/small town category (€2,000), and being named one of the regional winners in the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan – Local Authority Pollinator Award, adding another €1,000 to their total. Their efforts in sustainability and biodiversity continue to inspire others across Kerry and beyond.
Portmagee Tidy Towns also made their mark, becoming one of four regional winners in the ‘Water and Communities’ award category, taking home €1,000 for their ongoing environmental stewardship of this scenic coastal village.
In South Kerry, Sneem Tidy Towns were recognised for their creativity and environmental awareness, winning the Gardening for Bats Design Space award (€1,000), highlighting the innovative ways communities are integrating wildlife conservation into their projects.
Kenmare Tidy Towns were celebrated as national winners in the SuperValu Inclusive Communities Award, earning €2,000 for their outstanding efforts in creating a town that welcomes and includes all members of the community.

Building Year on Year
The SuperValu Tidy Towns competition is about far more than awards. It’s about local pride, connection and the quiet dedication of volunteers who give their time to make their surroundings better for everyone. Across Kerry, these efforts are visible in every painted wall, planted verge and pollinator garden — each one representing countless hours of community collaboration.
Every year, new ideas are sown, partnerships grow, and results flourish — and 2025 has once again shown how Kerry’s towns and villages continue to build on success, blending tradition with innovation and sustainability.
From Tralee to Castlegregory, Portmagee to Sneem, and every place in between, Kerry continues to set an example for what community-driven progress looks like — thoughtful, creative and deeply rooted in pride of place.
