From mountain trails and wild coastlines to creative inspiration and inclusive adventures, each story reveals the true heart of Kerry through the eyes of those who live it.
Eileen Daly, organiser of the Kerry Way Ultra, shares her passion for the festival and why race day is her perfect day in Kerry — from the stunning trails of the Iveragh Peninsula to the community spirit at each step of the way, her perfect day is all about adventure, connection, and memorable moments.
Séaghan Ó Súilleabháin finds his perfect day in Cahersiveen between the hills and sea, starting with a lively Irish language coffee morning and ending with a walk up one of the many scenic local hills to take in the view. Artist Carol Cronin draws endless inspiration from Dingle’s beaches and the Wild Atlantic Way, where the ever-changing colours of the sea and sky spark her creativity every day.
Mike Fleming recalls one of his most perfect days ever — watching a young boy with autism smile, laugh, and even take the captain’s chair on the lakes, creating magical memories. His family business Ross Castle Boat Tours makes Killarney’s lakes accessible for everyone, from wheelchair users, children with autism, and families of all abilities, showing that moments like these are what make a day truly perfect. And John Edwards from Wild Water Adventures finds his perfect day on the water, skies, and along the coast — kayaking through breath-taking views, enjoying stunning sunsets, and discovering Kerry from every angle.
Kenmare: Fork, Flame & Town Charm
Back to Top of ListMy perfect day starts with my rowing pals, gliding across Kenmare Bay, which is truly spectacular and so therapeutic. Framed by the Iveragh and Beara Peninsulas, the scenery never fails to take my breath away. After rowing, we enjoy a celebratory coffee and treat at Blasta on Henry Street — a favourite local spot in Kenmare.
Next, it’s off to Coornagillagh for a bit of seaweed foraging for our Kerry Surf & Turf beer, which celebrates both the wild Atlantic Ocean and the Kerry mountains. Lunch with my husband at P.F. McCarthy’s is always a must before heading back to the Tom Crean Brewery for a tour and tasting. It’s there we share the stories behind our award-winning beers and the legacy of my grandfather, Tom Crean, along with memories of our 2016 centenary expedition to South Georgia, retracing his incredible footsteps.
As the day winds down, we unwind with a pint of our Scurvy Dog IPA at Crowley’s Pub, listening to the sounds of local traditional musicians. Their music has a way of melting away every stress and calming the soul. Lá draíochtúil – a truly magical day in Kenmare.

North Kerry: Beaches, Waves & Sunset Pints
Back to Top of List"A perfect day in Ballybunion starts with waves rolling onto the golden strand and the scent of salt in the air. After breakfast overlooking the sea, I kayak to the hidden Nun’s Beach, where cliffs rise dramatically. Later, I surf a few waves before playing golf at the Ballybunion Links, with ocean views stretching endlessly. The day ends with fish and chips by the shore, followed by a lively pint at a local pub — the perfect North Kerry experience."
Francis Bennett, Ballybunion
"My day starts with a walk along Ballyheigue Beach, followed by an açai bowl from The Peachy Bean. I spend the day swimming or playing with friends, finishing with chips from Shafi’s and sunset views from the wall. Ballyheigue is calm yet full of life — like summer never ends here."
Abbie, Ballyheigue
"I enjoy a slow stroll along the Cliff Walk, stopping for coffee at Seaside Eats or a chat outside Marine Bar. The afternoon might be reading the paper on the promenade or enjoying a quiet pint in McMunn’s. There’s something about Ballybunion — the sea, cliffs, and people — that makes every day feel like a gift."
Michael, Ballybunion
''My perfect day begins with breakfast in the garden. It’s a lovely sunny day and I am waiting for a friend to arrive. I have agreed to take her on a tour of our beautiful heritage town of Listowel. I begin by showing her our famous shop fronts, starting with the McAuliffe Plasterwork adorning shops since the late 1800’s. My favourite shop front is the Harp and Lion. We take a break at John B Keane’s pub for an Irish Coffee. As John B said ‘Beautiful Listowel serenaded night and day by the Silver River Feale’. We move on to the town square, which is a market square, said to be fashioned on Covent Garden in London. We finish the day with dinner and a glass of wine in the Listowel Arms Hotel, another building full of history.''
Bernie - Listowel
''The historic Childers Park in Listowel is a place of contemplation and invigoration for me. I take regular walks in the Park observing the changing natural landscape across the seasons during the long days of summer to the shorter, sharper days of deep winter. From stately trees to glorious rose bed displays, daffodil borders and carpets of wild flowers, it is truly a sight to behold. Bordered by the majestic River Feale the Park also contains a little oasis, the Garden of Europe, with monuments commemorating famous writers such as Listowel’s own John B. Keane and the German writer Friedrich Schiller. It’s worth taking a breather here and absorbing the beautiful floral aromas and the birds singing in the trees. From here I make my way to the award-winning Allies Coffee Shop in the centre of Listowel town for a delicious coffee and sweet treat. Magical moments.''
Lucy – Listowel

Dingle Peninsula: Adventure, Views & Local Flavours
Back to Top of List"My perfect day on the Dingle Peninsula starts with a Dingle Sea Safari, spotting dolphins and puffins while taking in the raw beauty of the wild Atlantic. Back on shore, I treat myself to a scoop (or two) of Murphy’s famous brown bread ice cream. From there, I make my way to the Maharees for a horse ride along its endless beaches, before unwinding in the Brandon Bay sauna. As the sun sets over the shore, I finish the day with a pint at Spillane’s pub — the perfect ending."
Grace, Dingle
"For me, it’s a hike up Brandon Mountain, with stunning views of the peninsula and beyond on a clear day. Later, I enjoy chowder and a pint in Murphy’s Bar in Brandon. Around Dingle town, I love grabbing a coffee in ''Juice for thought'' for thought and visiting the Aquarium — simple pleasures that make a day feel truly special."
Happy, Dingle
"My perfect day begins with waking naturally to soft morning light, feeling calm and rested. I start with a warm cup of tea, taking in the view over Ventry Harbour from my home in Mám an Óraigh. If the weather’s nice, I’ll head down to Ventry Beach for a walk — maybe even a quick dip. Later, I’ll pop into Dingle for coffee and a catch-up with friends. If the sunshine sticks around, I end the day with fish and chips outside Quinn’s Pub, soaking up the last of the light with a pint of Dick Mack’s pale ale. Simple, peaceful, perfect."
Rosalyn, Dingle
