Dingle Peninsula / Corca Dhuibhne

North and South of the Peninsula, you’ll find miles of beaches. Some highlights include Coumeenole Beach, which offers views out to the Blasket Island and was a film location for Ryan’s Daughter. Its tropical coloured water is alluring, but strong currents make it unsafe to swim. Ventry Beach is popular with locals and visitors alike. This Blue Flag beach is ideal for a family day out, offering a car-free beach, summer life guard and 3km of beach shore to enjoy! On the northside of the Peninsula lays Brandon Bay, which is often referred to as Ireland’s longest beach and stretches from Brandon Bay, Cloghane to Fahamore. Facing the North Atlantic these beaches often experience rolling waves that are ideal for those that are looking for surf or windsurfing breaks. There are a number of sandy beaches to explore in the area known as the Maharees, a popular location for watersports with a life guard during the summer.

The Slea Head Drive is a scenic driving route along the R559 taking in approximately 47km of Wild Atlantic Way scenery, historic sites, Irish-speaking villages, film locations and views of both the Blasket and Skellig Islands. It is recommended that all vehicles, cyclists and walkers travel clockwise on this round route. To complete the route, it is recommended to take between a half and full day depending on how many stops and detours you would like to experience. One such detour we recommend is timing your drive to capture the sunset in Baile na nGall, a small village facing the west.

Ó thuaidh is ó theas ar an leithinis tá tránna fada, áille. Ina measc tá Com Dhíneol as a bhfuil radharc amach ar na Blascaodaí agat. Is anseo a deineadh cuid den scannánú ar Ryan’s Daughter. Cé go bhfuil dath gléigeal ar an bhfarraige anseo, tá sruthanna láidre ann agus níor cheart dul ag snámh ann. Bíonn ana-thóir ag muintir na háite agus cuairteoirí araon ar Thrá Cheann Trá. Is trá Brait Ghoirm í atá 3km ar fhaid agus atá ana-oiriúnach don teaghlach ar fad. Ní bhíonn gluaisteáin thíos ar an dtrá agus bíonn garda tarrthála ann i rith an tsamhraidh. Ó thuaidh ar an leithinis, tá Bá Bhreandáin agus an trá is faide in Éirinn, deirtear! Síneann an trá seo ó Bhá Bhreandáin go Clochán agus ar aghaidh go dtí an Fhaiche Mhór. Tá na tránna seo ar aghaidh an Atlantaigh Thuaidh amach agus is minic go mbíonn na tonnta oiriúnach dóibh siúd gur spéis leo surfáil nó surfáil gaoithe. Tá go leor tránna deasa gainimhe sna Machairí, áit a mbíonn spórt uisce le déanamh agus a mbíonn garda tarrthála ann i rith an tsamhraidh.

Is bóthar le radharcanna aoibhne é Slí Cheann Sléibhe ar an R559 atá thart ar 47km ar fhaid. Is bóthar é atá ar Shlí an Atlantaigh Fhiáin, le láithreacha stairiúla, bailte ina bhfuil an Ghaeilge á labhairt go laethúil, suíomhanna scannánaíochta, agus radharc ar na Blascaodaí agus na Scealga araon. Moltar do thiománaithe, rothaithe agus coisithe dul ar deiseal timpeall an bhealaigh chiorclaigh seo. Molaimid lá iomlán nó leath lae a thógaint chun an bealach ar fad a thaisteal ag brath ar cé mhéad stop a mhaith leat a dhéanamh. Stop amháin a bheadh deas ná bheith i mBaile na nGall in am do dhul faoi na gréine, baile beag atá ag féachaint amach siar.
