Wild Atlantic Way Drive
Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way is the longest defined coastal drive in the world, and for visitors to Kerry looking to experience natural beauty and breathtaking coastline, it is not to be missed. County Kerry boasts the longest section of the Wild Atlantic Way, with 19 Discovery Points, 4 Embarkation Points and 2 Signature Points. Taking you from clifftop views to seaside shops, historic sites to picturesque villages, breathtaking hikes to epic surfing, the Wild Atlantic Way in Kerry caters to all ages and interests.
Kerry’s character is literally shaped by the peninsulas that strike out into the Atlantic and offer some of the best views along the Wild Atlantic Way, including the Iveragh Peninsula, Beara Peninsula and Dingle Peninsula, which is the farthest west one can travel in Ireland. Kerry’s two Signature Discovery Points look to the ocean from these.
Blasket Sound - The Blasket Centre
At the westernmost point of the Wild Atlantic Way, you’ll catch sight of a group of fabled islands, deserted, battered by the elements, but endlessly fascinating. This viewing platform offers commanding views of the Blasket Islands, a group of islands no longer inhabited but very important to the cultural heritage of this area and especially to the Irish language.
Bray Head - Skelligs View
Bray Head viewing point is located on Valentia Island and can be reached from Foilhommerum Bay. At the top are the remains of an observation tower built in 1815. The Skellig Islands are instantly representative of Kerry’s elemental west coast. The Skelligs are a UNESCO World Heritage Site once described by the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw as ‘part of our dream world’. The appearance of Skellig Michael in a small but pivotal role in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens saw a surge in visitors to the island as fans flocked to see the site where Rey locates the missing Luke Skywalker.
